Fran & Leni previewed at Latitude Festival 2016. It then went straight to a month’s run at Assembly Edinburgh, did a week at Vault Festival London, went on to a national tour, and then to another London run at the King’s Head Theatre. It features music written especially for the play by the Tuppenny Bunters, with lyrics by Sadie.
It was nominated for Best Drama in the Greater Manchester Fringe Awards, and both Sadie (Leni) & Sarah (Fran) were also nominated for Best Actor.
“A bittersweet rampage through a friendship that weathers one of Britain’s great social upheavals. Profanity meets poetry…energetic performances that balance knife-edged irony with heart-rending sensitivity while thrashing out foul-mouthed quips…a provocative, observational piece.” ★★★★ – The Stage
“Bittersweet story of two girls’ rebellion against the machine. At times laugh out loud funny, at others provocative, and at others deeply sad, Fran & Leni lives up to its feminist punk inspirations” ★★★★ – To Do List
“Brings the tale of two lost punk souls alive…Fran & Leni is a darkly romantic comedy that is effortlessly delivered and full of life.” – The F Word
